Mixed Media Canvas - Made With Love Design Team Project

Daolin Goh

Sometimes, you need not take a plane to travel but just with your imagination. This is what the below piece is inspired from. We are always travelling although not always geographically but it can be in the form of finding a creative locus in our minds and expressing it in our craft.

Step 1: Tear background paper and stick down with Multi Matte Medium
Step 2: Apply Clear Gesso. I used clear Gesso so when I applied my fossilized amber spray I would be having a translucent effect rather than a pigmented one.
Step 3: Mix about 7-8 drops of fossilized amber re-inker into the mini mister and fill the rest of the volume with water (this is to achieve a higher concentration of colour and still retain some water-wicking properties)
Step 4: Spray ink from mini mister around and move art piece around while using a heat tool to dry the image. Sprinkle water for the signature wicking effect and dab water droplets with paper towel.

Step 5: Apply Art Anthology dimensional paints (these are amazing!!!) onto stencil designs. Layering on over the other and repeat at diagonal corner.

Step 6: Prepping the embellishments and altering them. Stick down metal embellishments and flourish diecut and paint gesso over them. This allows these non-porous surfaces to grip onto the paint later on. Paint over with Art anthology's Garnet Gemstones and stick them using beacons 3 in 1 (very strong silicone based glue). The dimensional paints can be used as a regular paint too.

Step 7: Use paper cut outs from the Juliet and Safari line from Bo Bunny and layer transparency cut out over the image (use multi medium matte for the acetate sheet as it dries very clear).
Step 8: Diecut compass on yellow cardstock and distress it with aged mahogany distress ink to give it a deeper colour. Place diecut of compass on bottom right hand of cluster and place Heidi Swapp's wood veneer over it. Paint veneer with Art Anthology Garnet paint again.

Step 9: Use tarnished brass distress paints and fingers to apply paint over raised areas at the metal embellishments giving a more 'finished' look.

Step 10: Enjoy you masterpiece!

Thank you guys for stopping by. Til next time!
